Shakti free travel scheme increased income of temples: Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru, Sep 25 (IANS): Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Monday that the Shakti free travel scheme for women in Karnataka has increased the income of temples.

He was speaking at the inauguration of 'Our Monument: Our Heritage, Our Identity, Our Pride' campaign interaction and digital platform organised by Tourism and Archaeology Museums and Heritage Department at Conference Hall, Vidhana Soudha.

"There are substantialopportunities to develop tourism in the state. The concern behind the Shakti project is that even the poor should be allowed to go to spiritual and eco-tourism centers and temples. 60 lakh women have benefited from this and the income of temples has increased.

"The economy is gaining momentum and business and transactions are creating more jobs. All these concerns have worked behind the Shakti scheme," he said, adding that the scheme was not initiatedonly because of the election.

He said that if tourism grows in the state, the cultural pride of the country will increase and the economy will get a boost.

"No one should forget Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's words that people who do not know history cannot shape the future... The protection of monuments is essential to make the present generation understand our history and to convey the importance of our heritage to future generations.

"If the public joins hands with the government to protect the monuments, our history and heritage can be passed on to the next generation, he said.

The CM congratulated the industrialists and organisations who have come forward with self-motivation to adopt and preserve the monuments.

Prashant Prakash, Chairman of Startup Vision Group and Kalki Foundation attended the event as special invitees.Tourism Minister Dr. H. K Patilpresided over the programme.Additional Chief Secretary of the Tourism Department Kapil Mohan, Director of the Department V. Ram Prasath Manohar, Commissioner of the Department A. Devaraju and many others were present.

There is no such thing as free lunch. Somebody always pays. Politicians always do not share this fact as it is not convenient. Free ride to women is paid by other passengers by increase in prices or tax payers. What is happening is just redistribution of benefit. If free ride for women increases employment among women, then they can become economic contributors in the society, and thus increasing the overall gdp of the state. But, there is no data to support this as yet. Money saved by not paying for the bus just bumps temporary demand and it is just an economic fallacy. The time spent on the free temple run takes out the productivity of the earning person, thus reducing the potential economic contribution (opportunity loss) and the personal income. This does not increase the overall pie of the state. Politicians only think of vote. Nothing more, nothing less.

A housemaid earning 10,000, with expenditure of 800 towards travel, if she does not has to pay that today with free travel scheme, that helps her. She saves that much amount, which can be best utilized for some other necessary things. It is not a rocket science to understand. Good Governance means distribution of resources, to empower people. Indeed, there is cost for everything what gets done by every govt, whether it is chandrayan or suryayaan, PR shows or roads. Priority of sensible govt is to reach out to people in their desperate needs first.

From Modi to last of sympathizer of RSS-BJP, wanted congress guarantees to fail. Pity, instead it improved state finances. Today, even bhakths grudgingly acknowledge they benefited poor, middle and working class. This has finally exposed BJP govt big talks and corruption as well.

Temple runs were the thoughts women got when the facility just opened... All in all people have benefitted from all the schemes govt has implemented...

The govt needs to audit the income and expenditure of mattas , temples and other religious places as it has become a convenient place to hoard black money . Also the wealth of heads of religious places has compounded multifold while ordinary people are suffering. with various day to day issues

Fact-wise that is probably correct, but he might want to ask Muzrai department to reinforce this overture with data (before and after launch of Shakthi scheme). Alas, Siddu can only provide temple data if we insist; he definitely dare not provide similar data for churches and Mosques because he has none. Regardless of the same, those with proper documentation (Aadhar) are feeling empowered and there is no doubt on that - hope Siddu can ensure that Shakthi Scheme will be a permanent feature. Most importantly, minorities are completely ignored with this statement. 2024 elections are serious business it appears.

Yes Sir true income of temple has increased, but what use of it to the temple as All the money, gold silver offered by the Devotees goes to the Govt , how much of money collected from each temple is given back to the temple ? Last year alone Rs 125 crores Govt received from Sri Kukke Subramanya, why the same law not applicable to other communities ???

Nithin Bangalore ,Who said it is not applicable to other communities?Even in catholic church each pfennig and cent ,(Rupee)is counted on sunday collection and is handed over to the Bishop after cutting their wages or for the church use.It goes directly to Rom without going around and will be used for missionary.Collections in church is the lowest among other religious alms.
