Udupi, Sep 27: MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary has warned the government that he will sit in protest in front of deputy commissioner’s office along with five MLAs in the district if the district administration does not solve the problems of the owners and drivers of construction material transport lorries and tempos within the next three days.

Speaking in Udupi on Wednesday September 27, he said that the problem is caused not by lorry owners or drivers but the policies of the government and the district administration. “The district administration should sort out the legal drawbacks and solve the problem within the next three days and prevent its adverse effects on the lives of ordinary people. Nearly 35,000 families in Udupi depend on 5,000 lorries in Udupi. Their lives have come to the streets now. The lorries are parked on both sides of the road from Shirur to Hejmady. Eight lac metric ton sand is required in the district. 50% of that sand is available at CRZ and four to five metric ton sand is available at non CRZ limits. But the district administration does not permit the removal of sand, stones, mud and rocks. It does not consider applications for permission. The officials should not prevent transport of sand inside the district and ensure that sand does not go out of the district. The law that deviates from it cannot be tolerated. Six months should be allowed to set right the confusion in law and make everything as per rule. The problem is caused by the department and not by the lorry owners and drivers,” he said.

Byndoor MLA Gururaj Gantihole, Kaup MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty, Kundapur MLA Kiran Kumar Kodgi and Sadananda Uppinakudru were present.
