M'lore: Country’s Progress is Due to Priority Given to Education – Veerendra Heggade

Mangalore, Aug 20: “A lot of progress has occurred in the independent India due to the utmost priority given to education sector. Today the nation is considered as the developing nation not because of rich people, but because of the increase in the number of educated people. About 40 years ago, foreign nations were ridiculing the nation as land of snake charmers, whereas now many foreign countries prefer India as the best place for investment with their projects” said Dharmastala dharmahikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade.

He was delivering his maiden keynote address at a district level educational convention and workshop on ‘quality education through proactive administration’ organized by Zilla Panchayath (Sarva Shikshana Abhiyan, DK district) at the Netravathi hall in Zilla Panchayath building here on Saturday August 20.

Speaking further he said that opportunities were created in various sectors in the nation which led even a common students studying in villages to shine at national level. Affordable education facility in rural places was a revolution in the country; he said and added that the duty of Government is always creation of opportunities. Though one wishes to climb the wall, he should be given the ladder, and then it depends on the individual how he makes use of it with his talent to climb it, but providing a ladder is our duty, he elaborated in his speech.

He noted free education in Government schools, mid day meal, free uniform among other facilities nothing but a revolution in education sector.

He pointed out unlike the people representatives’ contribution to the society, the contribution of the officers in various government departments is not publicized, hence inner satisfaction will make them to find better ways to serve and be happy.

Kumar Naik, secretary of the Government, primary and high school education department, Karnataka said that the state government in this year budget availed Rs 10,100 crore for the education department which is substantial, he noted. The money allotted for Akshara Dasoha project which stood Rs 300 crore earlier now has been raised to Rs 850 Crore giving the jobs to 99000 women, with feeding 70 lac students each day. However discussion should be made that nutrition in food always maintained.

In this day long workshop, 11 sessions will be held with the presence of various speakers. Moses Jayashekar, Deputy director, Department of Public Instruction, welcomed. K T Shailaja Bhat, president of ZP, Eshwar Kateel, president, education and health standing committee, DK, Dr Channappa Gowda, DC, Dr K N Vijayprakash, CEO, ZP, B G Naik, joint director, Mid Day Meal Project, Bangalore, Philomina Lobo, joint director and principal, teachers training school, Mangalore were the chief guests. Education department officials are part of this workshop.
