Mangaluru: Project Medicrew holds ‘Safety and First-Aid Awareness Day’ at Manipal School

Media Release

Mangaluru, Oct 5: Manipal School, Mangaluru saw a fantastic collaboration as Project Medicrew's ‘Safety and First-Aid Awareness Day’ seamlessly merged with the science curriculum's "Safety and First-Aid" chapter, offering valuable insights to the students of grade 4 and 5. The event, which took place on September 26, aimed to equip students with essential first-aid and safety knowledge, ensuring they can respond effectively during minor medical emergencies.

The event saw the active participation of 18 dedicated members from the Rotaract Club of Medicrew, a charter non-profit organization composed exclusively of medical interns and professionals from MCODS Mangaluru (batch of 2018). These volunteers visited the school to conduct a series of informative sessions, to emphasize the importance of immediate medical help in the absence of a medical professional to save time and life of fellow humans.

The volunteers used a teddy bear to mimic an injured person and explained the proper administration of medication and the correct procedures for treating injuries. Their demonstrations highlighted the critical importance of immediate medical assistance in the absence of a medical professional—a vital skill that can save time and lives during emergencies.

In addition to basic first-aid techniques, the event also featured demonstrations of CPR and fire safety training. Volunteers even performed role-plays of emergency situations, encouraging students to actively implement the first-aid measures they had learned, effectively instilling the confidence to save lives.

The students were provided with a handout checklist of essential first aid kit necessities that they need to maintain in their houses, ensuring that the students will always be aware of the medications to be kept ready for minor medical contingency.

This hands-on learning not only educated the students but also enabled them to discern various first-aid and safety measures to be executed during minor medical crises.

This integration of Project Medicrew's Safety and First-Aid Awareness Day with the science curriculum at Manipal school has proved to be a successful educational endeavour, enriching the students' understanding of essential life-saving techniques.
