Bangalore, Aug 20: The disproportionate assets case against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa came up for hearing at the Special Court in Bangalore on Saturday, when a joint application moved by the AIADMK supremo’s close aide Sasikala Natarajan and Ilavarasi for recalling the investigating officer (IO) was turned down.

The Special Court after rejecting the joint application for recall of the IO, adjourned the hearing till September 6.

Earlier, the counsel representing the first accused (Jayalalithaa), A Kandaswamy filed an application before the court seeking three weeks adjournment in the light of Special Leave Petition filed before the Supreme Court against the Special Court’s order of August 12.

The Special Court, in its August 12 order, had rejected the applications filed by Jayalalithaa seeking exemption from personal appearance, which is now pending before the apex court.

The Special Court, in its order, had also rejected applications filed seeking permission to make a written submission or depose through video conferencing.

To avoid further delay in the proceedings, the accused subsequently approached the apex court on August 17 and filed an SLP before it against the Special Court order.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s counsel prayed that since the apex court’s decision on the SLP was pending, the case may be adjourned till three weeks.

The Special Public Prosecutor B V Acharya, who has since been appointed as the State’s Advocate General after D V Sadananda Gowda became Karnataka Chief Minister, also acceded to the request of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister for adjournment of the case for three weeks.
