Udupi, Oct 6: Committee of landless people held protest near city municipality on Friday urging to provide basic infrastructure at the government residential complex at Herga village and to handover the houses to the beneficiaries.
The protesters said that even though four years have passed after the building reached its final stage of construction it is not handed over to the beneficiaries as basic infrastructure is not provided.
Supreeta, one of the beneficiaries said, “We paid Rs 90000 after taking loan in order to get a government house. The loan is still pending. From bank also 3.10 thousand rupees loan is given to us. We are paying the instalment of that also. At present we are living in rented houses. There also we have to pay rent. If we are provided with houses as promised it would be really helpful for us. This is the issue of 240 families.”
Rajshekhar one more beneficiary said, “This houses are built for the landless poor people. The work of many houses is pending. The former MLA has given us title deed also. But the houses are still not handed over to us.”
The protesters said that drinking water pipeline needs to be installed in the houses that are constructed. Proper electricity connection needs to be given. Doors and windows need to be fixed and white washing needs to be done. The road that leads to the complex should be asphalted.
