Mangaluru: Prof J N Shetty Memorial Oration held at Father Muller Medical College

Mangaluru, Oct 6: The department of dermatology at Father Muller Medical College, in collaboration with the Prof J N Shetty Memorial Oration Trust and the Karavali Dermatology Society, organized the ‘Prof J N Shetty Memorial Oration and KDS Clinical Meet’ on October 1, at the conference hall of Father Muller Medical College Hospital.

This annual programme aims to honour the memory of the late Prof J N Shetty, the visionary who served as the first dean and head of the dermatology department at Father Muller Medical College from 1991 to 2000. He is fondly remembered for his services in the field of Leprosy in Hind Kusht Nivaran Sangh.

The event commenced with interesting case presentations by Postgraduate Residents, Dr Veril Vaz and Dr Hiloni Biren. This session was chaired by Dr Girish P N and Dr Kashinath Nayak.

After the Interesting case presentations, the inauguration ceremony took place. The programme began with an invocation to the Almighty, followed by the lighting of the lamp by esteemed dignitaries. Dr Sukumar D, president of the Prof J N Shetty Memorial Oration Trust, introduced the dignitaries and extended a warm welcome to the delegates.

The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions. Dr Dipankar De, professor of dermatology from PGI Chandigarh, Fr George Jeevan Sequeira, administrator of FMMCH, Dr Antony Sylvan D’Souza, dean of FMMC, and Dr Jacintha Martis, professor & head of dermatology FMMC and Dr Vishal Amin KDS president on the dais during the inaugural ceremony. Fr. Richard Aloysius Coelho delivered the presidential address.

Dr Dipankar De was honoured by the dignitaries present on the occasion.

The academic session continued with the eagerly awaited Prof J N Shetty Memorial Oration by Dr Dipankar De, with the topic being ‘Autoimmune Bullous Diseases Research in India – Pemphigus and Beyond’. Dr Narendra Kamath and Dr Manjunath Shenoy chaired the session.

Following the oration, a guest lecture was delivered by Dr Supriya Hegde Aroor, professor & head of psychiatry at Father Muller Medical College, on ‘Psychodermatology – A Psychiatrist's Perspective’. This lecture was chaired by Dr Shruthakirthi D Shenoi and Dr Balasaraswathy.

Another guest lecture was delivered by Dr Vidya T S, a senior consultant and cosmetologist from Bangalore, on ‘Aesthetic Procedures Complications and Their Management’. This lecture was chaired by Dr Smitha Prabhu and Dr Shricharith Shetty.

The programme also featured interesting cases presented by Dr Melissa Grace and Dr Ramith Shetty, postgraduates from the department of dermatology at FMMC. This session was chaired by Dr Jerome Pinto and Dr Sripathi H.

The programme was attended by staff & PGs of Father Muller Medical College and Karavali Dermatology Society members, HODs & PGs of medical colleges of Dakshina Kannada & Udupi districts.

Dr Sonal Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Gayathri Santhosh and Dr Divya D’Souza compered the programme. A total of 150 delegates participated in this scientific event.
