Mangaluru, Oct 6: National Service Scheme (NSS) was implemented to commemorate the birth centenary of Mahatma Gandhiji on September 24, 1969. Hence, every year September 24 is celebrated as ‘NSS Day’. The NSS unit of government first grade college, Kavoor celebrated NSS Day on September 23 and also an orientation programme was organized for the first year NSS volunteers. The programme was inaugurated by Mohini, assistant professor of commerce, Dr P Dayananda Pai – P Satisha Pai Government First Grade College, Car Street, Mangaluru, by watering a flower plant to symbolize the concern for nature.
Mohini who served as NSS programme officer for more than 3 years, addressed the NSS volunteers. In her orientation speech, she explained the role of NSS volunteers in the college, their duties and responsibilities towards the fellow students and the society as a whole.
Principal Dr Shivarama P who presided over the programme wished the students all success in their service as NSS volunteers.
Dr Geetha M L, NSS programme officer, Dr Therese Pereira, IQAC coordinator, Dr Santhosh Pinto, student welfare officer and Jyothi Shetty, IQAC co-coordinator were present.
