Udupi, Oct 7: Kota police station inspector and personnel are accused of registering theft cases on two Dalit women, locking them up in the police station for two days, hurling caste abuses, torturing them mentally and physically. Both women are admitted to district hospital at Ajjarkad in the city.

As per details, Asha G and Sujatha, residents of Saligrama of Brahmavar had gone to work at the house of Kiran Kumar Shetty of Nooji village on October 2. They left Kiran’s home at 1.30 pm and went to their respective homes.

At 6.30 pm on October 2, it is alleged that SI Sudhar Prabhu of Kota police station called Asha G and asked her to report to police station immediately as Kiran Kumar Shetty has filed a complaint of his golden bracelet being lost. Accordingly, Asha went to the police station where SI Sudha hurled abuses at her on the basis of Dalit caste and pointed the pistol at Asha’s forehead and threatened to encounter her. She did not even provide drinking water to Asha and did not allow to use the washrooms.

Asha was asked to come to the police station on October 3 also. When she went at 10.30 am to the station. SI Sudha Prabhu and staff Revathi and another person, along with Kiran Kumar Shetty hurled caste abuses at her and Sujatha. Sujatha was forcibly taken to home by Kiran Kumar Shetty, who slapped her on her face. He also made Asha to sleep on the floor and hit her on her soles and kicked her stomach.

At around 7.45 pm on October 3, before sending Asha out from the police station, the police made a video and asked her to forcibly say that the police personnel did not harass her in the police station. They also threatened Asha of a false case and putting her behind the bars.

Victim Asha has filed a complaint with SP of Udupi in this regard.
