Mangaluru, Oct 8: Annual General Body meeting of Alumni Association and Agnesian Day was held at St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru on 8 October 2023.

The programme began with invocation hymn lead by Edith and team. Sr Dr M Venissa A.C., the President of the Alumni association welcomed the gathering. She spoke about the selfless involvement of the Alumni throughout the year in social activities and continuously working towards its vision for a better tomorrow. Vivid Dsouza, the Secretary of the association presented the annual report of various activities conducted by the association.

Life time Achievement Award for the distinguished Agnesian Alumnae, founded by Marjorie Texeira, was presented to Dr Philomena Peris, Ex- Chairperson, Karnataka State Commission for Women and Director of Avanthy Group of Estates. The felicitation was presented by Sr Dr M Venissa A.C., the President, Geanette Dsouza, the Vice President, Vivid Dsouza, the Secretary and Marjorie Texeira.

The citation read by Marjorie Texeira concluded, ‘We place on record Dr Philomena Peris’s commitment, leadership, and devotion to the cause of environment and more importantly to women and the girl child, a field of endeavor close to the heart of her Alma Mater; and her erudition and experience painstakingly acquired and selflessly employed in her call of duty and service to the society’.

Dr Philomena, in her reply thanked the association for the honour, shared with the audience her experiences of working for the Women at the state level. She explained the various social evils which surround the life of a women and how the women are made victims of various rituals by the society.

The entertainment program included a filmy dance by the alumni, thematic dance by the College students, traditional dance by the Manipur students of the College, spot games, Housie game and the Baila dance by the Alumni. The program was compered by the alumni Nishal Dsouza, Aurelia Leon and Carol Pais. Geanette Dsouza, the Vice President thanked everyone for their overwhelming support and kind presence. The entire program concluded at 1.30pm followed by sumptuous lunch. As many as 170 Alumni were present. The day was a resounding success which made the reconnecting of the alumni possible in a beautiful way.
