Media release

Puttur, Oct 9: Yaksha Kala Kendra of St Philomena College, Fine and Performing Arts, collaboratively organised a cultural event named ‘Kalantaranga’, an orientation to the performing arts students at the SJM Hall of the college on October 4.

The event was graced by the presence of Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, principal of the College, who highlighted the pivotal role of culture in an individual’s life.

He stressed that engaging in cultural activities contributes significantly to personal development and nurtures creativity. Such activities encourage students to think innovatively, fostering improved imagination and creativity.

"Participation in music, visual arts, dance, and various cultural activities not only enhances creativity but also boosts self-confidence in students. Research has shown that students involved in cultural programs tend to excel academically and possess superior stress management skills. These activities also instil discipline, teamwork, and leadership qualities in students, all of which are essential life skills,' he said.

Participating as a resource person, Prashant Rai, the convener of Yaksha Kala Kendra emphasised that artistes can distinguish themselves through their talent, creativity, and unwavering dedication.

"An artiste’s work knows no boundaries and can serve as a source of solace, capable of bringing smiles to his/her audience. Furthermore, artistes can transform even the smallest of characters into successful ones and enhance their concentration through their artistic endeavours," he said.

Rajeshwari M, the coordinator of the ‘Yakshamritha ‘certificate course, encouraged students to take advantage of the numerous opportunities in college and within the adopted village of the college.

The performing arts students rendered a prayer. Manoj of II BBA extended a warm welcome and compered the event. Jeslin D’cunha proposed the vote of thanks.
