Talk on ‘Contribution of the Konkani Community to Nation Building’ held at Sacred Heart College

Mangaluru, Oct 9: Mangalore University's Konkani Adhyayana Peeta and Sacred Heart College Madanthyar organized an enlightening event on October 9.

The event featured an invited talk on the "Contribution of the Konkani Community to Nation Building" by esteemed poet and writer, Venkatesha Nayak, a Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Awardee. 

The program commenced with an introduction by Dr Jayavantha Nayak, coordinator of Konkani Adhyayana Peeta at Mangalore University. Dr Nayak expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate the Konkani community's remarkable journey and emphasized the importance of recognizing their role in shaping the nation.

The main highlight of the event was Venkatesha Nayak's inspiring talk. In his address, he delved into the historical significance of the Konkani community's contributions, citing examples of influential Konkani personalities in various fields such as literature, music, science, and politics. He stressed the importance of preserving the Konkani language and culture for future generations.

Following the talk, a prize distribution ceremony was held to recognize outstanding achievements in the activities of the Konkani Club. Students who excelled in various cultural and academic endeavours were honoured for their dedication and commitment to promoting Konkani culture.

Presiding over the event was prof Alex Ivan Sequeira, the principal of Sacred Heart College, Madanthyar. Prof Sequeira lauded the collaborative efforts of both institutions in organizing such a significant event and emphasized the need to continue promoting cultural diversity and heritage.

Robin Joseph Sera, the coordinator of the Konkani Club, extended a warm welcome to the audience and highlighted the club's dedication to preserving and promoting the Konkani language and culture among the youth. Viyola Lenita Rego delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the support of the participants, faculty, and students who made the event a success. The event was skilfully compered by  Arwin Pinto, who kept the audience engaged and informed throughout the program.
