Mangaluru: Launching ceremony of M Sc Applied Nutrition & Dietetics held at YIASCM

Mangaluru, Oct 11: The Department of Food Science and Nutrition organized the official launching of M Sc Applied Nutrition and Dietetics on Monday, October 9 at Seminar Hall, 6th floor, YIASCM, Kulur Campus here.

Dr Anurag Bhargava, professor of General Medicine and head of Centre for Nutrition, Yenepoya Medical College, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) was the chief guest of the programme. Dr Arun A Bhagwath, principal and dean of Faculty of Science presided over the programme along with Dr Shareena P, vice principal and dean of Faculty of Commerce and Management, Narayan Sukumar, vice principal and Joel P Joseph, HoD, Department of Food Science and Nutrition.

The Department of Food Science and Nutrition felicitated Dr Anurag Bhargava for his outstanding contribution and remarkable achievement in the field of healthcare system. “Diet, nutrition and exercise play an important role in the maintenance of health and prevention of diseases. Nutrition helps in the development of healthy immune system and ultimately helps in protecting the body against life-threatening diseases,” said Dr Anurag Bhargava, in his address. He also stated that formal training and practical setting is very important in learning and understanding the route and risk of the disease and prevention against it and he also shared his valuable insights regarding threats and prevention of tuberculosis. Dr Arun A Bhagwath mentioned the importance of practical skills, community engagement and awareness regarding nutrition in his presidential address.

The programme started with an invocation by Sidra Nasar, student of V semester B Sc Food Science and Nutrition followed by a welcome address by Aishwarya M, assistant professor, Department of Food Science and Nutrition. Vaishnavi N, lecturer, Department of Food Science and Nutrition introduced the chief guest Dr Anurag Bhargava. Navya G. assistant professor, Department of Food Science and Nutrition proposed a vote of thanks. Dr Pavithra M., assistant professor and PG coordinator was the master of ceremony for the programme. Nearly 200 students of both M Sc as well as B Sc witnessed the programme. The head of the departments of various programmes, faculty members as well as parents and guardians of the students also attended the programme.
