Kundapura, Oct 11: “Do not harass the specially-abled for payment of pension. Do not give room for middlemen,” said former commissioner of the rights of handicapped, K V Rajanna to the tahsildar.
He was speaking during the coordination meeting of the community-based revival of specially-abled held at Kundapura taluk panchayat auditorium on Wednesday.
“DDRC is functioning only at Bengaluru rural and Udupi districts. It is only at 14 places out of 34. 5% of funds reserved for the specially-abled should be used completely for their facilities,” he said.

MLA Gururaj Gantihole said that he has requested to provide KPC hospital at Hosangadi for rehabilitation of those suffering from back pain. “As per government regulations 40% handicap is necessary to provide facilities. Therefore, I will be speaking to the concerned to relax the rules,” he said.
“People residing at Byndoor are unable to make use of the dialysis machine at Kundapura sub division hospital. Therefore dialysis units will be opened at four places in Byndoor with the cooperation of private individuals,” he said.
Shankar Kulal of the education department said that 10 students in Kundapura and 12 of them in Byndoor are suffering from learning defects but the government doctors are refusing to issue the letter. The MLA has assured that he will take action.
Women’s and children’s welfare department district deputy director Shamala, specially-abled and senior citizens empowerment department district director Ratna, tahsildar Shobhalakshmi, Kundapura taluk panchayat executive Shashidhar, Byndoor taluk panchayat executive Bharati, Seva Bharati Kanyadi’s Vinayaka Rao, Taluk health officer Dr Premanand, social welfare department assistant director Raghavendra Varnekar, municipal council revenue officer Anjani and others were present.
