Kasargod, Aug 23: A resident of Mogral near Kumble is among the 20 shipmen held captive by Somali pirates, who took control of a ship they were manning, on Saturday August 20.

He has been identified as Mohammed (53), a native of Doddanangi, Mogral, near Kumble. Mohammed works for a Mumbai-based company which owns the ship, ‘Firechem Bogey’, a chemical-oil tanker. The pirates had boarded the ship when the ship was near an Omani port. Mohammed conveyed to his family on Monday afternoon about his being held captive.

Mohammed told his family members that he and his colleagues are not being tortured by the pirates. He confessed he does not know when the release of the ship employees would materialise. He asked his close ones to pray to Allah for his early release.

Reportedly, another person from Kerala, Rohit from Trissur, is also among the shipmen held by the pirates. Exact location of the ship is yet to be ascertained.
