Mangaluru: Lourdes Central School, Bejai holds Silver Jubilee Annual Sports Meet 2023

Mangaluru, Oct 13: Lourdes Central School organised the spectacular Silver Jubilee Annual Sports Meet 2023, for the secondary and senior secondary section on Friday, October 13 at Mangala Stadium. The imminent dignitaries present on the occasion were the chief guest Fr Michael L Santhumayor, principal and campus director, Milagres College, Mangaluru, Dr John Baptist Saldanha, manager, Fr Robert D'Souza, principal, Belita Mascarenhas and Anitha Thomas, vice principals, Ashok Pinto, vice president and Cynthia Avitha Pinto, secretary, Bejai Parish Pastoral Parishad, escorted by the convenor Vishwanath Devadiga.

The inaugural programme commence d at 8.15 am with the prayer song ‘We Gather on this Beautiful Day’ sung by the school choir. This was followed by the school parade headed by the head boy Arjun Kumar, the head girl Prajna K.P, the house captains and vice captains with their respective houses marching to the beat of the band. The ‘platoons and brigades’ of Lourdites gave a dazzling performance through the march past. The school flag was ceremonially carried by the worthy sportsmen of the School – deputy head girl Jane V Moras, sports minister Tanvi Bhat, Sports athletes-Diya Alva, Shreya A.R for the flag raising ceremony. The chief guest Fr Michael L Santhumayor hoisted the flag. The sports torch was borne by our athletes Ridhi Chowta, Rudra Rajeev, Ayshuman Tailor, Shraddha S Rai, Aadhy Shetty, Shawn Mathias, Advaith U P and Manvith Shetty. The chief guest Fr Michael L Santhumayor received the torch and declared the sports meet open. To rejuvenate the spirit of true sportsmanship, the sports minister Tanvi Bhatled the oath and recited the pledge. The students gave an impressive spectacle of harmony and discipline through the mass drill. The school band in symphony complemented the drill.

On this joyful occasion, Belita Mascarenhas, the vice principal delivered the welcome address.

The chief guest Fr Michael L Santhumayor, principal and campus director, Milagres College, Mangaluru, addressed the gathering and complimented the students discipline during the March Past and the exemplary display of the Drill. Quoting president J F Kennedy said that every sportsman should be physically fit, have a good spirit and ‘a never give up attitude’. He motivated students to have a goal, keep going,channelize their strength, to be positiveand thus achieve something big in future, keeping in view the ethics of the game. The chief guest also expressed that failure is a part of the game but success would eventually follow. He graciously wished Fr principal, Fr manager, and Lourdites a very happy silver jubliee year.

Dr John Baptist Saldanha, the president of the function lauded the management and students for their united effort and excellent field display which he said “Speaks well of the Lourdite family”. In his message, Dr John Baptist Saldanha said that a healthy mind in a healthy body makes one holistic. He motivated students to come out of their comfort zone, play at least for 30-40 minutes, enjoy the sunshine and the physical exercise. He advised students to stop eating junk and fast food. He further requested parents to give their child home made food and enjoy a happy and long life. He also highlighted the values from the story of a ‘pumpkin’. He wished our students bright future and and one day shine at the National Level.

Veerendra Alva, the PT instructor and convenor of the programme proposed a vote of thanks. House system song was sung with vigour and gusto.

Deepa D'Souza welcomed the gathering for the valedictory ceremony.

Fr Robert D'Souza, the principal, Belita Mascarenhas and Anitha Thomas, the vice principals felicitated the winners of the relay and individual champions.

Class VII and VIII Girls’ Category: Araina Kamath of Amber House
Class VII and VIII Boys’ Category: Nireekshith U P of Opal House
Class IX and X Girls’ Category: Trisha H of Coral House
Class IX and X Boys’ Category: Manvith Shetty of Coral House
Class XI and XII Girls’ Category: Diya N Yashodhar of Coral House
Class XI and XII Boys’ Category: Mohd Rayyan Fazlan of Amber House

The rolling shield was awarded to CORAL House and the runners up shield to JADE House.The Best March Pastwas awarded to the students of class XI and XII.

LCS principal Fr Robert D'Souza, in his concluding address, appreciated the tremendous hard and dedicated work of the PE teachers and the good work of all teaching and non-teaching staff in making this Silver Jubilee Sports Annual Day a successful one. He appreciated the excellent discipline exhibited and motivated all students to be great sports persons. He congratulated the Winners and encouraged them to keep the Lourdite Flag soaring high.

The convenor of the annual sports day, Vishwanath Devadiga proposed a vote of thanks. The lowering of the school flag which marks the end of the closing ceremony was done ceremoniously in the presence of the principal and vice principals. The programme concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.

Anitha Menezes, Diana D'Silva, Deepa D’Souza and Gowri Ravi anchored the programme. Vishwanath Devadiga and Veerendra Alva were the convenors of the Annual Sports Meet 2023.
