Udupi, Oct 13: Yashpal Suvarna, the Udupi legislator, met with Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo to discuss the safety of Udupi residents in Israel amidst the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

"The central government is committed to the protection of Indians in Israel. A significant number of Christians from Udupi district are employed in Israel. Recently, union minister Shobha Karandlaje met with the uniom exterrnal affairs minister to facilitate contact through the Indian embassy in Israel," he said.

During the meeting, MLA Suvarna apprised the bishop of a helpline number at the legislator's office and informed him that the his office was trying to establish contact with the Udupi residents in Israel through the embassy in New Delhi.

On the occasion, priests Charles Menezes, community leaders Rajesh, Alvin D'Souza, Denis Mascarenhas, Sherlin, BJP functionary Dinesh Amin, former city council member Prashant Bhat, and Aruna Poojary were present.
