Our Lokpal Bill Very Strong: Khurshid

New Delhi, Aug 23 (IANS): Reiterating that there was no disagreement that corruption needed to be tackled, union Law and Justice Minister Salman Khurshid Tuesday defended the government's Lokpal (ombudsman) bill and said it was "very strong".

As Anna Hazare's fast against the government's version of the Lokpal bill entered the eighth day and parliament was adjourned on the issue, Khurshid said: "The government's Lokpal bill is not weak, it is very strong. I have said that again and again and for many points the credit goes to Team Anna."

While the government's bill is before parliament, Team Anna is pushing for its version, the Jan Lokpal bill.

Asked for his opinion on parliament's standing committee, which is examining the Lokpal bill, also taking into consideration the Jan Lokpal bill, Khurshid said the panel could examine any document it liked.

"The standing committee can get any document and reflect upon it," he said.

"People who give evidence before the standing committee can point to any formulations that are available in this document and the standing committee can reflect on it," he added.
