Udupi, Oct 15: World hospice and Palliative Care Day was celebrated by the renowned CSI Lombard Memorial Mission Hospital, Udupi at Vatsalya Palliative Care Unit premises of the hospital.
On this occasion, Dr Sushil Jattana, the medical director of the hospital said, "Palliative care is an important part of a patient's life. Only 1 to 2 percent of the people are getting this care. Therefore, there is a need to expand it further. We are planning to expand our center here in the near future. The government should also setup such units in the district and taluk centres".
Speaking on this occasion, Suvarna Enterprises owner Madhusudhan Heroor said, "After Dr Sushil Jattana became the head of the hospital, many development works have been done by him and his team. Mother Theresa said that service given with love is important, similarly Vivekananda said that the hands that serve are more important than the hands that end up with God." We are all here in the spirit of service. The elders here are fortunate. This hospital is a senior institution of Udupi district. Let the service continue from here," he said.
On this occasion, essential items were handed over to the residents of Vatsalya Palliative Care Unit on behalf of Lions Club Udupi, Chetana and Giants Group Brahmavar. Various cultural programs were organized by nursing students on this occasion.
Lion Jagdish Acharya, Giants Group Brahmavara chairman Milton Olivera, secretary Vivek Naik, hospital senior doctor Ganesh Kamath and others were present on the occasion.
