Puttur: Forest dept officials seize vehicle transporting wood illegally; driver flees

Puttur, Oct 15: The forest department officials have detected a vehicle that  was carrying illegal wooden logs without proper documents.

Acting on a definite tip-off, forest officials waylaid a truck that was carrying wooden logs of various varieties of trees at Lavathadka in Rekya village on NH 75.

Shahul Hamid, a resident of Kokkada in Beltangady taluk, who was driving the vehicle escaped from the spot.

Jayaprakasha K K, Uppinangady zonal forest officer is expected to take further action.

Deputy zonal forest officer Santhosh, forest guards Ningappa Awari and Sunil Naika took part in the operation.

    All Govt officials and our politicians are corrupt. When they dont get bribes they arrest or send ED and CBI. Nothing in India moves without bribe.

    how can a driver flee when the truck is stopped? all golmaal....he must have given some hefty sum to the forest guys...as such half of this timber will be sold by the most corrupt forest dept people itself...

    Sorry, match fixing went wrong. No timber is transported without prior arrangements with the officials. It is their private source of income. Government salary just for daily needs.
