Melbourne, Oct 15: The 12th Annual General Meeting of the Melbourne Konkan Community (MKC) was held on Sunday - October 15, 2023 in the parish hall of St Joseph’s Church Northcote to elect their 13th president, core committee members, supporting office bearers and general members for the year 2023-24.
Stephen P. D’Souza, the Chairperson and Returning Officer welcomed the gathering and oversaw the Annual General Meeting (AGM) proceedings. The AGM commenced with a prayer and a hymn, thanking the Lord for His choicest blessings during the past year and invoking blessings for the coming year.
The minutes of the previous AGM were read by the outgoing Secretary Rita Fernandes which was confirmed and passed. In his President’s report, the outgoing President Loyal Andrade gave a brief description of the various activities conducted during the year on a grand scale, having introduced ‘Women’s Wellbeing Day’ and ‘Flavors of Mangalore’ both of which were grand successes. Treasurer Valerian D’Souza tabled a detailed ‘financial report’ of the Association that was endorsed by signatories after a question and answer session.
The following individuals were elected unanimously to the core committee for the year 2023-24:


Vincent D’Costa Taccode - President;
Dolly Sequeira Cutinho - Vice President;
Maxim Rego - Secretary;
Valerian D’Souza - Treasurer;


The members of Core Committee elect bring with them vast experience. The President-elect Vincent D’Costa Taccode before taking up the mantle of Presidentship of the prestigious Association was the Sports Secretary in the immediate past year where he was instrumental in successfully organising cricket, throwball and badminton tournaments. The Vice-President-elect and the Treasurer-elect have been one of its past Presidents and the Secretary was one of its past Vice-President.

To support the core committee in their various activities: Rita Fernandes will be the cultural secretary; Vincent Fernandes will look after sports; Stevin Carvalho media and Ashley D’Silva will be looking after grants. Janet D’Mello, Loyal Andrade, Valerian Menezes, Philomen Fernandes, Mario Tauro and Rohan Mendonca would be the remainder of the general members in the 14-member strong unit.
A ‘joint oath’ was administered by the returning officer to the newly elected core members who pledged to adhere to the association’s by-laws. The president-elect

Vincent D’Costa Taccode in his ‘acceptance speech’ thanked the outgoing committee and outlined his vision for the year ahead with a few more Events with the cooperation of one and all and promised to make it a memorable year.
