Mangaluru Oct 18: The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Milagres P.U College Mangaluru had organised a 7-day annual special camp from October 11 to 17 at Nithyadar High school, Permanur, Ullal.
Vani V Alva, the commissioner of the municipal council, Ullal, Fr Bonaventure Nazareth the correspondent Milagres Educational institutions, Fr Antony Lasrado, correspondent Nithyadar English Medium High School. Sr Pramila Rodrigues headmistress English Medium High School, John Monteiro vice-president of Nithayadar church PPC, Melwin Vas principal Milagres PU College, Kiran D’Souza ecturer NSS programme officer, Siggi D Perumayan lecturer in physical education and Teena Caroline D’Silva, president ICYM Nithyadar unit were present during the event.
Kiran D’Souza welcomed the gathering and Mohammed Shakib Khan, student leader of NSS proposed the vote of thanks. Swapnil, NSS volunteer compered the programme.
During the seven days of residential camp, the volunteers rendered service (shramadhan), students participated in an awareness programme and a rally was led by Lalitha K E who gave the inaugural talk, Awareness on environmental change and protection by Sr Pramila Rodigues, a talk on communication by Avinash Daniel D’Souza, awareness on first aid session Sachet Suvarna, talk on the functions of mass media by Ahammed Bava, and interactive session on ‘NSS & my success’ by Sharon Pereira were held. Various programmes were organized for the public and awareness was created about the protection of the environment by planting saplings. Awareness over cleanliness and about plastic pollution was created by picking up the plastic from Nithyadhar high school to Thokkottu bus stand.
In the valedictory function, Fr Antony Lasrado addressed the gathering with the valedictory speech and he said, “Our life should be like a river which flows. Through service, we can find purity of mind and heart which is found in the moving water of the river, we should not be stagnant like the water in the Dead Sea.”
He also added by saying students are worked very hard during the shramadhan and he remembered the services of all the people involved in making the NSS camp successful.
The programme was presided by John Monteiro vice president Nithyadhar church, and Arun D’Souza, Youth Congress member was the chief guest. Kiran D’Souza lecturer NSS programme officer welcomed the gathering and read the report of 7-day annual special camp. Fr Antony Lasrado, John Monteiro, Arun D’Souza, and Siggi D Perumayan, who supported for the successful conduct of the camp were felicitated. NSS student leader Saqib Khan proposed the vote of thanks. Various sports and cultural activities were held for children and prizes were distributed. As many as 50 volunteers were a part of the camp.
