Bhubaneswar, Aug 24 (IANS): Crop failure and a crushing debt burden led to a young farmer committing suicide in Orissa's Bargarh district, an official said Wednesday.
Dayanidhi Bhue, 30, a resident of Barahakanta village had borrowed about Rs.50,000 from a self-help group and a local money lender to grow brinjals. Bhue was under depression and hung himself from a tree Tuesday, Benupani Mirdha, a local tehsildar, told IANS.
It is the third incident this month of a farmer in Bargarh committing suicide. The district has received 40 percent less than normal rainfall.
The state government said at least 34 blocks in 16 of Orissa's 30 districts have received less than 50 percent rainfall this monsoon.
