Udupi: Centre bans crackers that cause noise beyond 125 decibels

Udupi, Oct 18: “The union government has banned the production, sale and use of crackers that are causing more than 125 DB or 145 PK noise. Suitable legal action will be taken against those who violate the rules.Everybody should follow the precautions for safety,” stated the deputy commissioner of Udupi district Vidya Kumar in her press release.

“Fireworks should be bought from reliable dealers who hold a licence to sell them. An adult should always supervise their use. The precautions mentioned on them should be followed without fail. A wax candle or an agarbatti should be used to light them," the release said.

"A bottle of water should be kept ready at an accessible distance to douse fire. The crackers that are left to the sky should be used at places where those can easily fall down to safe places. They should be disposed of in water after use. Crackers that cause noise should not be lit between 10 pm to 5 am," the DC said in a statement.

"The crackers should not be lit while in hand. They should be lit on the floor and everybody should stay away after that. Vessels should not be used to ignite them. The fireworks that are sent to the sky should not be sent near trees, leaves, cables etc. Those should not be ignited near buildings so that they do not enter the door and windows and cause accidental fires. Crackers should not be ignited in those places where the movement of people is more," she said in a release.

"Crackers that fail to ignite, should be watched for a while and immersed in water and disposed of. Fake or illegal crackers should not be used. Crackers should not be used for experiments or prepared independently. Parents should take care so that children do not use crackers on their own,” stated the deputy commissioner in the press release.
