Two get life term for beating Dalit man to death in Agra


Agra, Oct 24 (IANS): A court in Uttar Pradesh's Agra on Monday sentenced two men to life imprisonment for beating a Dalit man to death in 2007.

The additional district and sessions court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each of the two convicts. While, another accused in the case was let off due to a lack of evidence.

 

Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Suraj Rai said that Pratap Singh alias Pappu, a bicycle mechanic in Idgah locality under Shahganj police station area, had an argument with Sindhi, Jeetu, and another person, all residents of Kheria Mod area.

In a fit of rage, the three culprits thrashed Pappu and left him severely injured.

Pappu was admitted to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

A case was registered under IPC sections 302 (murder), 304 (attempted murder), and 34 (crime committed by several people with common intent), and the three accused were arrested.
