Gujarat: Cong leader suspended after liquor seizure from residence

Ahmedabad, Oct 25 (IANS): A Congress leader in Gujarat has been suspended after liquor bottles and beer cans estimated to be valued at around Rs 95,700 were recovered from his residence following a police raid.

Mahendrasinh Parmar, the president of the Congress unit in Gujarat's Anklav, apart from facing suspension, was also removed from all party positions, a Congress leader said on Wednesday.

The raid on Parmar's residence resulted in the confiscation of foreign liquor and beer cans.

The police said the seized items included 80 bottles of Royal Stag Whiskey valued at Rs 40,000; 27 bottles of McDowell’s worth Rs 13,500, and 96 cans of Kingfisher Super Strong Premium Beer priced at Rs 9,600.

Amit Chavda, Leader of the Congress Legislative Party, said: "Parmar was detained due to suspected immoral activities during a liquor-related raid. The district Congress committee acted swiftly, ensuring that he was suspended from all official capacities within the party. We maintain a clear stance that guilt will not be overlooked based on community, party affiliation, or caste."

Alongside Parmar, two other individuals have been booked in connection with this case.
