New Delhi, Oct 26 (IANS): Homegrown Optiemus Infracom Limited and US-based Corning International Corporation on Thursday announced that they will manufacture 30 million pieces of high-quality finished cover glass parts for the mobile consumer electronics industry in the first phase and will employ more than 500 people in India.
Both the firms under the joint venture -- Bharat Innovation Glass (BIG) Technologies -- will manufacture the parts.
The companies announced the joint venture last month with an aim to set up a world-class manufacturing facility in the country powered by cutting-edge technologies and processes.
Cover Glass is a key component to electronic devices.
The companies said that 100 per cent of the finished cover glass is imported in India for lamination with display panels, and they support the government's 'Make in India' vision by bringing cover glass finishing to the country.
“We are committed to make available world-class high-quality products for global and local brands. Embarking on this new journey, we intend to emerge as one of the top manufacturers of finished cover glass parts for use in mobile consumer electronic devices in the next five years,” said Ashok Kumar Gupta, Chairman, Optiemus.
Optiemus Group is a high-performance telecommunications and manufacturing enterprise headquartered in India with nearly three decades of experience across telecommunications, technology and manufacturing.
Corning International Corporation produces glass and ceramics products.
The company offers display glass, optical fibre, cable, diesel filters, and ceramic substrates.
