Mangaluru, Oct 26: Nitte (Deemed to be University) has launched the Nitte Climate Action Program (NCAP), a five-year outreach program that aims to empower youth to inspire action, enable impactful changes in behaviour, and promote innovations, leading to an equitable, sustainable future.
The program was launched on Thursday, October 26 at the Dr M Ramanna Shetty Memorial English Medium High School, Tapovana, Thokur Post and Village, Mangaluru. The chief guest of the launch event was James Coutinho, BEO, Mangaluru North, Dakshina Kannada.
The NCAP is organized by the MRSMEMS High School, the Sustainable Development (SDG) cell of the University, The Institution Innovation Council (IIC), and the National Service Scheme (NSS) units of Nitte DU. The program will reach out to 104 schools of the North Mangaluru Division, constituting approximately 16,000 students, and create awareness of climate change preparedness.
Speaking at the launch event, Prof Dr M S Moodithaya, vice-chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University) said, "The University is committed to protect nature. The university has implemented policies to execute environment friendly practices. The NCAP is a step further in our commitment towards creating a sustainable future".
James Coutinho, BEO, Mangaluru North, Dakshina Kannada said, "The initiative of the Nitte DU to create climate awareness is commendable. I advise the university to extend the program to the entire district eventually".
Dr Harsha Halahalli, registrar, Nitte (Deemed to be University), Mangalore was the Guest of Honour. Prof Dr G Srinikethan, president, Institution Innovation Council (IIC), Nitte DU, delivered vote of thanks. Shreelatha Rao, principal, Dr Mundkur, Ramanna Shetty Memorial English Medium School, Thokur, Mangaluru welcomed the guests.
Prof Dr Smitha Hegde, deputy director, NUCSER, Mangaluru gave the introductory remarks. She spoke on the importance of SDG's prescribed by United Nations Organization.
