Kadaba: KSRTC driver refuses to drive bus over passenger overloading

Daijiworld Media Network – Kadaba (MS)

Kadaba, Oct 28: The driver of a KSRTC bus that plies from Kadaba via Shantimugeru, refused to drive the bus as it was overloaded with passengers. The bus was stalled for more than half an hour at the crossroad at Alankar on Friday.

When the bus reached Alankar, 130 people had boarded the bus. This was way more than the specified capacity of the vehicle. The driver said that half of the passengers have to alight otherwise he is not going to drive the bus.

Last week, the same bus driven by the same driver suffered a burst tyre at Kudmaru and the bus had to be stopped.

One of the passengers called Puttur division of KSRTC and requested the officials to intervene. When one of the higher officers spoke to the driver, he agreed to move the vehicle.

Good decision by the driver. Technically only 10 people should be allowed to stand

130 people in a bus? His actions are justified for the safety of 130 people and not just the safety of the bus. On the other hand, why can't the depot arrange more buses? Would need at least 3 buses to ferry that many passengers.

Hats off to the driver. Why the higher authorities could not provide another extra bus?

Higher officials when requested to intervene should have put one additional bus to clear the passengers instead of forcing the driver to flout the rules. Driver`s decision not to drive the overloaded bus is perfectly correct.
