Udupi, Oct 30: A state-level sports event for boys and girls aged 14 years is set to take place at the Mahatma Gandhi District Sports Complex in Ajjarakadu, organized jointly by the Udupi district administration, Zilla Panchayat, the Department of Education, and St Cecily's Public School, Udupi. The event is scheduled to run from November 1 to 3.
Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna announced that the state-level sports event will feature young athletes from 35 educational districts and 2 sports hostels and will run from November 1 to 3.
Speaking at a press conference in Udupi, he stated, "This sports event will see the participation of approximately 1800 students, 250 team managers, 250 sports officers, and 200 volunteers, including sports organizers, totaling around 2500 people. The inauguration ceremony of the state-level sports event is scheduled for November 1 at 4:30 pm. Mizoram's renowned international sports personality, Mizo Chacko, will be the chief guest at the event. The sportspersons will proceed in a procession from Udupi church to Ajjarkad ground, starting at 3 PM."
The event has made arrangements for accommodation in 17 different locations, offering special security and medical facilities for the young participants. Locations where the students will stay will provide police presence, Rovers and Rangers, drinking water, and first aid facilities. All participants will be provided with meals and refreshments during the event, which will be centrally organized at the Govinda Kalyana Mantapa.
Officials present at the press conference included Ganapati K, deputy director of the Department of Education, Sr Theresa Jyothi, joint secretary of St Cecily's Educational Institutions, Sr Preethi J Crasta, headmistress of St Cecily's High School, Sohail Amin, vice president of PTA, Dinesh Kumar, physical education instructor, Joyce Pinto, headmistress of St Mary's High School, Joyline Parimala, headmistress of Christian High School, retired teacher Nirmala, and former student Rita Lobo.
