Udupi: Annual sports meet of St Mary’s English medium school held

Udupi, Nov 3: The annual sports meet of St Mary’s English medium school (CBSE), Kannarpady was held on Thursday November 3 at the school grounds.

Clifford Lobo, district forest officer Kundapur inaugurated the annual sports meet by releasing the balloons into the skies. He also received the torch and declared the sports meet open.

In his address to the students he said, “I was also a sportsperson during my student life. Today, it makes me proud to inaugurate and participate in this annual sports meet. We have gathered here to celebrate sportsmanship. The children of today are addicted to gadgets and have ignored sports and exercise activities. Sports builds work ethics. Sports is fitness, it improves health and it is also a medicine. Practicing sports makes us feel younger. Let us play sports every day.”

Fr Charles Menezes, correspondent presided over the programme. He wished a grand success for the annual sports meet.

Prinson D'Souza, Kaushali Salian, Anston Sean Mathias, Avya M Kanchan, Akash A and Harshith carried the torch around the ground. Prarthana Bangera, sports leader administered the oath to the students.

Gerald Pinto, physical education instructor, welcomed the gathering. Renuka Acharya proposed the vote of thanks.

Faculty Usha Hegde and Glen Veigas compered the programme.

Fr Johnson Sequeira, principal Rita Quadrous, vice principal Maxim D’Souza, vice president parish pastoral committee Col Dr Arthur Rodrigues, secretary students, faculty and parents were present.
