Mangaluru: YIASCM organizes research workshop on 'Blibliometric Analysis and Systematic Review'

Mangaluru, Nov 4: Yenepoya Research Centre for Finance and Entrepreneurship Development (YEN-Refined) of the Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce and Management (YIASCM) organized a day-long workshop to understand the intricacies of analysing research publications and conducting systematic reviews, the two crucial pillars in advancing research.

The workshop was inaugurated by the chief guest Prof Abubakkar Siddiq, professor and co-ordinator, department of PG studies in commerce, University College, Mangaluru. With years of experience in the field of commerce and research, along with boundless capacity for care and gentleness, professor Aboobacker Siddiq is not just an educator but also a mentor who believes in nurturing both minds and hearts. He delivered an insightful speech on the vital importance of relevant research and the critical role of literature review process. He emphasised the transition from a mere ‘literature report’ to a ‘critical literature review’, highlighting the importance of critically evaluating existing literature and developing a strong theoretical framework. Dr Siddiq’s speech served as a valuable reminder for researchers to contribute to the society while maintaining academic rigour, offering guidance on how to conduct research that truly matters and makes a meaningful impact.

The principal of YIASCM Dr Arun Bhagawath is not just an extensive researcher but also an administrator of eminence. In his presidential remarks, he focused on the crucial aspects of identifying the right research objectives with practical relevance to the society. He emphasised on carrying out research in unexplored yet highly relevant areas. His guidance served as a pathway for researchers, motivating them to conduct research which addresses pressing societal challenges. Dr Jeevan Raj, vice principal of YIASCM, shared the dais with other dignitaries extending his support and encouragement towards the workshop.

An overview about the objectives and the effectiveness of the workshop was given by Dr Niyaz Panakaje, the co-ordinator of YEN-REFINED, Yenepoya research centre for finance and entrepreneurship development.

The workshop featured three distinguished resource persons, each leading a session on pertinent research topics. Dr Suresh Poojary, senior professor from the department of management, YIASCM, spearheaded the first session, delving into the intricacies of ‘Systematic Literature Review’. Following that, Dr Shareena P, vice principal and dean of the faculty of commerce and management, provided valuable insights on ‘Bibliometric Analysis using RStudio’. The third session was skilfully conducted by Riha Parvin, research scholar from Srinivas University, who elaborated on ‘Bibliometric Analysis using VOSviewer’. The diverse expertise of these resource persons undoubtedly enriched and provided the attendees with a well-rounded understanding of these essential research tools for literature review. The workshop was concluded with a valedictory programme with an immense appreciation from all the participants. Dr Prashanth, associate professor from department of management, YIASCM delivered the welcome address and Bazigha, junior research fellow, YIASCM proposed the vote of thanks.

The event was a platform for all the participants to make more informed decisions contributing towards meaningful and impactful outcomes.
