Udupi, Nov 9: MLA Yashpal Suvarna said that Udupi district has become a model to the whole country through agricultural activities on barren lands, which the women of Sanjeevini self-help group have done.

The MLA inaugurated mud lamps of various designs, Deepavali gift pack and Udupi Sanjivini Kaje rice at the Udupi taluk panchayat campus.

He further said, “The barren land agriculture of Sanjivini group members is creating awareness among people about agriculture. Throughout the year, agriculture needs to be undertaken in the fields by growing vegetables along with paddy. The guidance of government officials is important in this regard.”

Deputy commissioner Vidyakumari said, “As the Kaje rice that is produced in the barren fields has used organic manure, it is good for health. The public should buy this and help the voluntary organization. Members of Sanjivini self-help group have become model to other women of the state.”

Prasanna, CEO of zilla panchayat said, “Sanjeevini programme is implemented in order to increase demand for the products manufactured by rural women. As there is demand for mud lamps during Diwali, these lamps are produced. Public should encourage them by buying more mud lamps. As there are no middlemen in this the members of Sanjivini will get the maximum benefit.”
