What a waste of a precious engineering seat in a prestigious college. IIT B has some of the best engineering facilities as I have seen and people who have absolutely no interest in pursuing engineering as a career take up these seats and then migrate to other non-engineering job lines. In case his interest was in IAS then he should have directly pursued it rather than beating round the bush.....People may not like my feedback for various reasons but give it a taught for a while on how many students with genuine interest try for the IITs and do not make it.

It is not true. Many of my South Indian friends have cleared IPS and IAS. It is just that the people are not aware of due to less marketing and publicity stunts. Even in states like Bihar and Jharkhand, many of the important IAS officers are from South India.
