Kundapur, Nov 12: Sunitha Poojary of Hemmadi got a rousing welcome here in her home town after getting selected to serve the Indian Army and on completion of her training schedule. Sunitha Poojary was also felicitated on the occasion held under the aegis of Billava community's organisations. Later, Lal Bahadur Shastri's statue was garlanded.
Sunitha who was accompanied by Ayanthika of Kolkata was also felicitated. Billava Sangha president Ashok Poojary and other office-bearers were present along with citizens of Kundapura.
Speaking on the occasion, Sunitha Poojary said, "It is possible to achieve success through hard work. It is of no use if one waits for luck to take over. My entire home town is like home to me. It is because of co-operation that I got from everyone that I got an opportunity to join the Indian Army and this has increased my desite to serve the country."
Earlier, Sunitha Poojary was taken around in an open vehicle in a procession from Kundapura to Talluru on the National Highway 66 up to Hemmadi. A pooja was offered to grama devathe at the Sri Lakshminarayana Temple. She was felicitated at the Hemmadi Sri Lakshminarayana auto stand in a programme. She was felicitated in the function held under the aegis of Sri Lakshminarayana Bhajana Mandali.
District home guards second-in-command K C Ramesh said people of India are able to happily celebrate the festival of Deepavali because of the Indian soldiers who are guarding the country's borders. "By joining the Indian Army, Sunitha Poojary will be an inspiration to many children and youths to join the armed forces," he said.
Manju Kalawar, headmaster of Hemmadi Janatha High School praised Sunitha's parents for their brave heart in sending their daughter to serve the country in the army. He said the town was proud of her parents. Sri Lakshminarayana Temple administrator Ashok Bhat presided over the function. School teacher Prathima R Mogaveera, Raghavendra Kulal of Kundapura, GP member Raghavendra Poojary Heddarimane, former member Syed Yaseen Santhoshnagar, entrepreneur Abbas, Hemmadi Sri Lakshminarayana Riksha Driver Owners Association president Praveen Devadiga, Ravi K, Hemmadi school's old students association president Harish Bhandary, Sunitha's mother Ganga and brother Sunil Poojary among others were also present.
Ex-serviceman Narayana Poojary, Babu Poojary Shiruru and Sunitha's colleague Ayanthika were felicitated.
Journalist Srikanth Hemmadi welcomed and Vasantha Hemmadi compered the programme.
