Udupi, Nov 17: District in-charge minister Laxmi Hebbalkar visited the spot at Gangolli fishing port where the fire mishap took place a few days ago. She held discussion with the officials of fisheries department and local fishermen.
Speaking to media, Laxmi said, “The loss due to fire mishap is estimated to be around Rs 13 to 15 crore. Efforts will be made to provide compensation within next 15 days.”
The minister also consoled the fishermen who were on the spot and also the owner of the boats that were reduced to ashes in the tragedy. Laxmi expressed sadness over the incident and said that she will hold talks with chief minister, deputy chief minister and minister for fisheries and ports to provide compensation.
The minister also said that a fire service squad will be formed in the port in order to avoid recurrence of such fire tragedy in future.
Deputy commissioner Vidya Kumari, SP Dr K Arun and leader Gopal Poojary were present.
