Firm Loses Himachal Hydro Project

Shimla, Sep 1 (IANS): Himachal Pradesh has cancelled the allotment of a hydropower project to an Indo-Norwegian company. It will invite fresh bids for the 60MW project, an official said here Thursday.

"The government will re-advertise the 60 MW Ropa hydropower project (in Kinnaur district)," a government spokesperson told IANS.

The project was allotted to Solaryan Pvt Ltd in 2008, he said.

"Since the company has failed to fulfil the required conditions, the contract was cancelled in May this year. Now fresh global bids would be invited," the spokesperson said.

The project was allotted on a preferential basis.

The company had earlier proposed to set up a Rs.2,400 crore facility to manufacture thin film silicon solar panels of 200 MW capacity in two phases in Baddi.

The Ropa project near Pooh, some 300 km from here, requires an outlay of over Rs.500 crore for its commissioning.

It is located on a tributary of the Satluj river.
