Mangaluru, Nov 23: The consumer court here ordered a private hospital in the city to pay Rs five lac compensation to the family of a deceased person as the mortal remains that were kept in the mortuary of the hospital were decomposed.
Dakshina Kannada district consumer disputes Redressal commission considered the decomposition of the mortal remains of Wilson Alan Fernandes as a deficiency of service of the hospital and ordered it to pay Rs five lac to his family members.
Permannur resident Wilson died on August 25, 2019. His mortal remains were kept in the mortuary of a private hospital as his relatives had to arrive from overseas countries. The hospital took Rs 2250 as the charges. However, on August 27 the hospital authorities informed Nelson Fernandes, brother of Wilson that the mortal remains are decomposed. A criminal case was filed against the hospital in this regard. In addition, Nelson Fernandes also filed complaint with the consumer court.
