Brahmin student forced to eat eggs in Shivamogga school, complaint lodged

Shivamogga, Nov 23 (IANS): A headmaster and his assistant of a government-run school here are finding themselves in a tight spot after a Brahmin student's father accused them of forcing his daughter to consume eggs.

The aggrieved father has approached the education department with a complaint regarding the incident at the KPS Primary School in Amrita village of Hosanagara taluk near Shivamogga.

In his complaint, Srikanth had stated that his daughter, hailing from Brahmin community, was forcefully made to consume an egg in the school.

He claimed that this had hurt religious feelings as they were vegetarians and demanded action against the head master and assistant teacher of the school.

The complaint had also been submitted to the Minister for Education Madhu Bangarappa, the Principal Secretary, Deputy Director of the Education department and local MLA.

To ensure healthy nutrition levels, the state government distributes eggs and bananas twice a week to the school children.

On earlier occasions also, the religious pontiffs had opposed distribution of eggs on the school premises.

The development has stirred a controversy in the state.

For some Brahmin - Eggs are Veg. And for other Brahmins eggs are non-veg. Hen is non-veg. so the product from hen must be non veg. Similarly cow and its meat is non-veg. The milk and its products must be non-veg. People make rules which are favorable to them. They forget the truth and involve in unwanted arguments.

Why create problems in mid day meal....Let kids eat whatever they prefer at their home....just keep the menu to milk, rice and sambar. If kids don't like it then serve water....that is simple. Soon some govt come up with a new schem to create fight on pork or beaf....just to create some problem.

Forcing someone to eat agaisnt religious beliefs is non tolerable, but opposing a govt food provision is not at all tolerable. Take option of the students what they would.like to eat.

Strict action must be initiated against the teachers and they have to be dismissed... They are not fit for teaching and can do hard labor... First understanding of teaching profession is mutual respect, tolerance and acceptance... They have failed in all the three... It is easy to talk about others' eating habits but if someone does the same thing about us we may not like...

It hurts. Some third party imposing a food habbit it hurts. It might be either way, whether to eat something or forced not to eat something. Either way, there is no place for third parties to impose food habbits on others. Let that be loud and clear. In this instance, it must be very carefully scrutinized, whether the child is really forced to eat? There was a case some time back in Delhi, a child who went to play on a terrace, complained to parents, she was taken there by a delivery boy. Poor fellow got thrashed, finally it is emerged through CCTV that child went all by herself and fearing parents anger, she lied. This is one thing. Also there is another angle, there are people who are annoyed of eggs being provided in mid-day meal. They dont eat, but they want others also not to eat. This angle too must be probed. But, if it appears someone has forced to eat, they must be held accountable and punished.

Food is a personal choice, one should not be forced to eat something that goes against personal or religious customs. As far as nutrition and health is concerned there are a good number of food items in vegetarian food that are superior and healthier than non veg. The headmaster and his assistant should be dismissed.

This is really unfortunate. School is "Vidyamandir". Not to interfere in another's belief and practice without valid reason. Learn and practice respecting another. Do other that you expect the other to do to you. Thank you and God bless each and every one of us.
