Udupi, Nov 25: In a tragic incident that occurred at Hebri Someshwara petrol pump on Friday, a tipper truck ran over two labourers who were sleeping near the petrol pump. While one died, the other is seriously injured.
The deceased is identified as Shivaraj (36), a native of Korlikoppa near Tyagarti. Shivaraj had loaded bananas in his pick-up and was going to Udupi via Agumbe-Someshwara route. As it was late night when they reached Someshwara, he parked the pick up near the petrol pump and slept in front of his vehicle with two other labourers.
Early in the morning, a tipper truck came to the petrol pump to fill diesel. After filling the driver of the tipper truck ran the vehicle over two labourers while turning the truck. Shivaraj died on the spot, while another labourer Kundur Mahendra is seriously injured. He is admitted to Manipal hospital. Yogesh who was sleeping inside the pick-up escaped certain death.
The deceased is survived by mother, wife and two sons.
