Ambergris worth over Rs 1.57 crore seized in Mangaluru, 3 arrested

Mangaluru, Nov 25: The city crime branch (CCB) police arrested three persons for allegedly possessing ambergris (whale vomit) on Saturday November 25.

The arrested are identified as Pyarejaan (37) from Chikkamagaluru presently residing at Vittal, Badruddin (28) from Vittal and Rajesh R (22) from Tamil Nadu.

The accused were arrested near Pumpwell. The police had received credible information that four people in a car were trying to sell Ambergris. Three were arrested later.

Ambergris weighing 1.575 kg worth Rs 1,57,50,000 was seized from their possession. In addition, three mobile phones and a car was also seized from the accused. The total worth of the seized items is Rs 1,62,80,000.

The raid was conducted under the direction of police commissioner Anupam Agrawal, DCPs Siddharth Goyal and Dinesh Kumar by ACP CCB P A Hegde and others staffs of the CCB.
