Exorbitant interest on Rs 1.5 lac loan, harassment leads family of five to suicide

Tumakuru, Nov 27 (IANS): Preliminary investigations have revealed that exorbitant interest rates and harassment led to the incident of five of a family committing suicide in Tumakuru district of Karnataka, police said on Monday.

The incident came to light on Sunday night in Tumakuru city and the police have taken five accused persons into custody and are investigating them.

Shockingly, the probe revealed that the family owed the accused Rs 1.5 lakh. The bodies of Kebab seller Gareeb Saab (36), his wife Sumaiyya (32), daughter Hajira (14), sons Mohammad Shabhan (10) and Mohammad Muneer (8) were found hanging at their residence in Sadashivanagar locality of Tumakuru city.

Gareeb Saab had left a two-page death note and also made a video 5.22 minutes before ending his life. In the video, he explained how the man and his family members residing in the ground floor of the same building tortured his family and led them to take the extreme step.

He had made a special request to the Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwara to punish the accused. Parameshwara hails from Tumakuru district.

Gareeb Saab had stated in the video before death that, one Kalandar residing in the ground floor is a demon and tortured his wife and children and beat them up. Kalandar also used vulgar language.

“My wife and children are afraid that if I die, they will not be spared. My wife and children are also committing suicide with me,” he stated in the video. Tilak Park police have registered a case in this regard and are investigating the case.

Ahmed Bangalore, for you and me may be it is small amount or feel could have bought from someone else. But for the person who borrowed was a big mental stress with person self. And who would give him that amount where previously not lent?Person who lent was harassing wife and children and beating ,it was written We dont know what he went through.Feel really sad when we hear this.I know how this is .Later all tell could have ...etc.Now too late.Only should punish such people who lead to suicide and terrorised family.May all souls rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathy to the family whatever left.He shouldnt have taken the innocent children in death.

It's pity that Gareeb Saab and his entire family had to commit suicide just for a paltry sum of Rs. 1.5 lakhs. He could have taken hand loan from known friends and paid off loan or could have reported to police. Suicide is never a solution. Poor children' lives ended who don't understand the situation at all. A very unfortunate and an avoidable incident.

Just for 1.5 Lakh someone has to commit suicide with all family members? This is utter stupidity.... No sympathy for such men who act cowardly ... Suicide is not at all a solution... There are many social service organizations as well as philanthropist available who help the needy.... He should have contacted his local Jamat members of Masjid community and have expressed his problem.... We are all humans, we all suffer in one or the other problem in life... We cant keep mum when things are going wrong with us.. We have to share our problems to someone, so that we can find solution..... There are many among us who are leading life by defying all odds irrespective of having huge debts... There are good kind hearted humans among us who provide enough time to for the debtors... May Almighty bless them in abundace as they are following the teaching sunnah.....There is a solution for everything... 1.5Lakh was not at all a big amount in todays date...... Kalandar, I believe is a non-Religious Muslims who has given amount on interest, which is strictly prohibited in Islam.... Truly an evil follower with no kind heart to give enough time to someone to comeup in life.... Was he going to die or comeon footh path if he was delayed getting his money.... Blood Suckers of poor people.... That is why it is high time to have Baitul Maal in every Mohalla to help the needy and destitute of that Mohalla... Baitul Maal concept was started by Prohphet Mohammed (pbuh)... Seriously our Zakath amount are getting wasted year on year with no proper management and distribution.... If we had followed his teachings, there would not have remained such blood suckers like Kalandar's and such poor like Gareeb who end life due to debts.

No one should suffer the ill fate of these poor departed souls. Unfortunately, our criminal justice system is slow and it suddenly wakes up for a while when there is some public outrage. It goes into deep slumber once again when perpetrators of injustice are caught and outrage subsides. Public does not bother once the case goes to court. Kalandar who was allegedly harassing the family is not the only to be accounted. Prese should investigate who all did Gareeb Saab approach for help. Suicide is generally the last thing one thinks of while in state of despair or helplessness. Who will hold others accountable ?

RIP, No words to express. Guys these are just excuses during end times. 1 Peter 5:8 - Be alert and of sober mind. Our enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Intelligence, Security, money does not help in end times. Only prayer will help. I apply blood of Jessus to my entire family before I start my day.

Its just 1.5 lacs not 15 lacs., which he owed would have got from anyone with kind heart. Suicide is not at all a solution instead would have faced the demon and fight.

It's only on paper. Similarly for some religions alcohol is haraam but most of drug dealers belong to this particular religion. In the Middle East banks dont give any interest to deposit holders but they charge interest on loans and little default in credit card payments fetch them hefty amounts.

This blade interest system is really a horrible one... Anyone who borrows money at above 25 interest per month will find it hard to honor the commitment... Blade interests run 3, 4 and up to 10% per month... Most of the times principle amount borrowed will be under 50000 rupees and the lenders also are ordinary people and not professional bankers... Deep personal torture follows after imminent default leading to hell on heaven for even the innocent children.. Very sad end of a lively family... Government must consider this case as gruesome murder and punish the culprits with harshest punishment... RIP to the departed souls....
