Mhadei case: BJP Govt has no strategy, ideas to proceed, says Goa Forward Party

Panaji, Nov 30 (IANS): After the 'Mhadei' case reportedly did not come up for hearing in the Supreme Court since the last two days, Goa Forward Party MLA Vijai Sardesai on Thursday alleged that the state government has no strategy or idea how to proceed.

"I understand that the hearing on Mhadei, originally listed on Wednesday before the Supreme Court, has not come up for hearing even today, delaying justice to Goa," Sardesai said.

"I am shocked and worried by the absolute disinterest of the government that continues to display in this critical affair. It's getting clearer everyday that we've no strategy, no alternatives, or no idea whatsoever how to proceed," Sardesai said, adding that the government should come clear whether Mhadei is compromised.

"I had urged the WRD minister to convene the House Committee meeting and tell us what strategies they have to go forward," Sardesai said.

"Should people of Goa take this total lack of enthusiasm by the BJP government as yet another confirmation of the local party's collusion with Karnataka at the highest level to divert mother Mhadei," Sardesai questioned.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday had expressed confidence that the state will win the 'Mhadei' case, being heard in the Supreme Court, against Karnataka.

"We are very much serious about the case and evidence-wise, we are very much strong. We are confident that the state will win the case," Sawant told reporters.

The bordering states of Goa and Karnataka are currently involved in a dispute over the Kalasa-Banduri dam project across the river.

The BJP government in Goa is under attack since the Central Water Commission approved the detailed project report prepared by Karnataka for the disputed Kalasa-Banduri dam. The Goa government was then forced to appoint a House Committee over the issue.
