Mangaluru: Expert PU College organizes Annual Sports Meet

Mangaluru, Dec 1: The Expert College, Kodialbail organized ‘Annual Sports Meet 2023’ on November 30, at Mangala Stadium. Mukund Kamath, proprietor of Ideal Ice Cream, Mangaluru was the chief guest for the inaugural function. Addressing the gathering, he praised the college for its excellence and innovation, in not just academics, but in all the other aspects which shape the holistic growth of the student.

The event was a grand display of sportsmanship and enthusiasm by the students and staff of Expert PU College. The event began with the assembly of athletes, followed by the arrival of the dignitaries, chairman, Prof Narendra L Nayak, vice chairperson, Dr Ushaprabha N Nayak, IT head, Ankush N Nayak and keystone proprietor, Deepika A Nayak, Yogarathna Gopalkrishna Delampady and principal, Prof Ramachandra Bhat.

The event proceeded with a march past by the athletes, representing their batches. The college flag hoisting was done by Kamath, followed by a stirring rendition of the college anthem, ‘Shrama Yeva Jayathe.’ The dignitaries then released a bunch of balloons in the air, symbolizing the spirit of the event. The principal, professor Ramachandra Bhat delivered the welcome address, while highlighting the achievements and activities of the college in the field of sports and academics.

The torch relay was then performed by the outstanding athletes of the college, who carried the flame of glory and honour. Thus, the sports meet was declared open by Kamath, who wished the participants the best. To uphold the values of fair play, sportsmanship and integrity, the sports captain of the college, Shubham G Shetty, conducted the oath-taking ceremony, wherein all the athletes participated wholeheartedly. The inaugural ceremony was compered by Zita D’Souza, HOD of the English department.

The Expert Day Sports Meet 2023 was a memorable and enjoyable experience for all the students and staff of Expert PU College. It showcased the talent and enthusiasm of the students in various sports and games. The event also fostered a sense of camaraderie and teamwork among the students and staff. With several fast-paced track events and engaging team events, the day was definitely not one to forget. The event was a great opportunity to celebrate the spirit of sports and the joy of learning.

The valedictory function in the evening gave a great conclusion to the programme, with Karthik Puthran, champion boxer, as the chief guest. The valedictory programme was compeered by Ujwal Pradeep, lecturer from the biology department. The much-awaited prize distribution then took place and the overall individual championship for boys and girls was bagged by Sohan Sathish Naik and Shaina Melora Rebello bagged, respectively. The overall championship was bagged by C2 batch. Karthik Putran delivered an energetic speech and congratulated the students, saying, “Your mind is already a winner, you just need to train your body.” Pramod Kini, HOD of the Hindi department, delivered the vote of thanks. The chief guest took part in lowering the flag, signalling the end of a memorable event. He then proceeded to officially declare the meeting closed. The eventful day came to an end with the resounding notes of the national anthem, bringing everyone together in the spirit of sport and unity.
