Tokyo, Sep 5 (IANS): A powerful typhoon that made landfall on Japan's Shikoku island Saturday and continued to ravage the country Sunday, left at least 15 people dead, a media report said.
At least 43 people were missing in the aftermath of the season's 12th typhoon Talas, Xinhua reported citing Kyodo News.
In Wakayama prefecture alone, eight people were killed and 32 were missing, police said.
The central government has dispatched a team of investigators to assess the scale of the damage in the prefecture.
On Sunday afternoon, Talas, packing winds of up to 108 km per hour, was travelling northeast over the Sea of Japan, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
