Mangaluru: St Agnes High School organises Annual Sports Day

Mangaluru, Dec 5: St Agnes High School organized Annual Sports Day on December 2. The day unfolded the spectacular assembly of the athletes and various sports talents of the students.

The guests were welcomed to the rhythmic beat of school band trained by Vijay. The chief guest Vishwanath Rai, assistant reserve police sub-inspector. Sr Dr Maria Roopa AC joined secretary of St Agnes Institutions, Sr Gloria AC, the headmistress, the heads of the institutions of St Agnes campus, sisters of the convent, PTA vice-president Gracy Shaji, PTA executive committee members and the physical education teacher were welcomed by the traditional guard of honour.

The formal opening ceremony began with an impressive march past showcasing discipline and unity among the participating teams. The fluttering flags and colourful placards set the tone for the day’s celebration. The parade was led by the sports ministers, Abdul Razak and Mishel Periera. The girl guides solemnly carried the school flag. A devoutly sung prayer song added spiritual dimensions to the sports day.

Teacher Sunitha welcomed the guests the chief guest Vishwanath Rai received the salute from the troops. The school flag was hoisted by the chief guest symbolizing the spirit of sportsmanship. The ceremonial torch was taken by Sandro Sonia, Tejaswini M, Dhrithi, Laxmi, Sanjeeva and Mishel Periera who represented the school at district and state level sports meet. Teacher Preethi Vas gave a brief introduction of the sports torch. Mishel Periera the school sports minister administered the oath. The esteemed chief guest delivered an impactful speech emphasizing the role of sports and games in the student’s life. He urged the students to spend quality time in keeping themselves physically fit.

Sweedal Angelika D’Souza expressed heartfelt gratitude A Nirmitha, Ashel Fernandez, Mansi Rajpurohith, Hanan and Princiya anchored the inaugural programme.

Various field events like shot-puts, high-jump, long-jump, discuss-throw, lagori (seven stones), cricket, volleyball, throwball and track events were also conducted. The cheers reached crescendo as the winners of each event stood on the victory stand to be felicitated. The air was charged with excitement as the athletes push their limits displaying their skill and determination in the ground.

The valedictory programme was graced by Everest Pinto. He awarded overall championship to the winners and congratulated all the participants and the winners. In his speech, he encouraged the students to instil values of collective sportsmanship.  The individual championship under 14 boys was secured by Prithviraj, under 14 girls, Diya S K, under 17 boys, Sanjeeva Naik, and Brijesh, under 17 girls, Sanvi Shetty and Mishel Periera

Overall championship, the march past winners were first place 10B, second place 9B and third place 9A and team championship. Under 14 girls, Sathya squad, under 14 boys Sathya squad, under 17 girls Neethi squad, under 17 boys Neethi squad.

On the whole the annual sports meet was a memorable day filled with moments fostering a sense of participation and invaluable lessons learnt through sports.
