Mangaluru Dec 12: Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai delivered a thought-provoking address at the SDM Law College auditorium in Mangaluru, emphasising the importance of rebuilding India as 'Bharat' to uphold its core values, in contrast to simply following to the 'Look West Policy' in dealing with the Indian Constitution.
Governor Pillai, speaking on the 'Keshavananda Bharathi Judgement and the Growth of Indian Constitutional Jurisprudence', emphasised the importance of a collaborative effort in redefining India as 'Bharat', in keeping with its rich civilizational legacy. He praised India's progress towards becoming a thriving democracy, emphasising the country's potential to emerge as a 'Vishwaguru', or world leader.
"The time has come to rebuild India as 'Bharat' for what it stands for. Value-based politics, as well as nation-building efforts by all branches of the constitution executive, legislature, and judiciary are bound to work hard to achieve the goal of the Nation," Governor Pillai stated.
While recognising the value of drawing inspiration from global ideals, he cautioned against blindly sticking to a 'Look West Policy' in the context of Indian constitutional principles and laws. Governor Pillai highlighted the importance of fostering energising debates, healthy dialogue, and productive discourse in order to fortify society, particularly in this challenging decade of the twenty-first century.
The programme, a collaboration between the Edneer Math's Organising Committee Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Keshananada Bharati Judgement, the Mangaluru Bar Association, and the SDM Law College, provided a forum for thoughtful debates on the evolution of Indian constitutional laws and the need for reviving the essence of 'Bharat' in the nation's values.
