Mamata proposes Kharge as INDIA bloc's prime ministerial candidate

New Delhi, Dec 19 (IANS): Even as the leaders of 28 Opposition parties came together on Tuesday for the fourth meeting of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc, Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee proposed Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's name for the prime ministerial candidate for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

According to sources, Mamata Banerjee’s proposal for the bloc’s prime ministerial candidate was also endorsed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

However, sources said that Kharge asked the leaders to first focus on winning more seats in the 2024 General Elections and bringing the INDIA bloc to power. He also added that he had already got many posts during his lifetime and everyone should first focus on winning. Everyone agreed to his demands.

The source also said that the seat sharing discussions will begin from Wednesday onwards and are likely to be completed by the end of December.

Even during a press conference that was held after the meeting, Kharge, when asked if his name was proposed for the prime ministerial candidate of the Opposition bloc, said, "Our first priority is to win more seats and bring the alliance into power. Then the talks on the prime ministerial candidate will be discussed."

This was the fourth meeting of the INDIA bloc, which was attended by Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal, Farooq Abdullah, Nitish Kumar, Rajiv Ranjan, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav, Uddhav Thackeray, Sanjay Raut, MK Stalin, Sharad Pawar, Akhilesh Yadav and Ram Gopal Yadav.

The source also said that eight to ten joint public meetings will be planned from January onwards. During the meeting, every leader got the opportunity to share their views and suggestions.

Khagre has lost his own home constituency by miles in 2014 and 2019. Khagre has no electoral draw and not a mass leader as well. So is this just for namesake for formality? Or is Congress sure of losing and looking for a scape goat? In my view, Shashi Tharoor would make a better choice for the PM candidate. ST is knowledeble , young , dynamic ,has conviction and class.

The Personal lives do not come into picture . If that was the case, Modi, Trump, Biden, Mellone, Macron etc had issues with their spouses in the past and have even in the present. Nobody talks about them if the candidate is capable.

Why all this tamasha ? Just declare Rahul Gandhi as PM candidate and fight unitedly under his able leadership. If the Congress cannot do that, it is implicitly accepting that Rahul Gandhi is not a capable leader who can unite. So without beating around the bush, bite the bullet. If allies do not agree, fight election on your own and reclaim the past glory.

All leaders Egoists -- present lot -- India got its freedom because of selfless leaders -- The focus is not on who will be PM -- winning elections first is most important---- This should be like a superordinate goal. ----- --Superordinate goals is a technique that involves bringing conflicting sets of people together, and setting a common goal that makes them forget their differences and work towards attaining something that will benefit everyone.--

Some people never learn. Even now they are giving opportunity based on caste, religion, creed etc. No democracy. Look at MP, Rajasthan, Chattisgarh etc. everything should be on merit. After 2014, India shining based on merit not on surname. Save KaruNadu. Acche din phir se lao. 2024

Rahul will be kept aside , saying he will need a rest as he is tired of Bharat Jodo Yatra. When Congress loses in 2024, Khagre he Bhakra will be blamed for each and eerything and kicked out. So it will make way for RaGa to be relaunched for 2029. Manasilayo?

If the opposition alliance wins sufficient number of seats in elections , all the elected members under alliance parties should meet and elect the Prime Minister democratically. There can be 4 - 6 candidates and by election they should decide who will be the PM. But right now winning against BJP is only a dream.

And with that Didi has made it loud and clear about her prime ministerial ambitions, directly or indirectly. Last time we had indirect prime minister we had very bad experience and a remote-controlled PM in MMS was installed. Will Kharge fill in that position while remote control will be in the hands of the lady that drove Tata out of West Bengal to Gujarat? Kharge will have to get used to double trouble of managing 2 remote controls - one from 10 Janpath and the other from Kolkata - that will be the death knell to Indian democracy as we know today. I know it is a hypothetical question and extrapolation thereof, but with those electorates who want to bring shame to this secular country where appeasement of minority and leftists is priority, you never know - it is a present danger. Our democracy never functioned based on logic and never will. Take the hint...especially those who are hoping that Bilawal Bhutto will become PM of India.

Will Congress win in the first place ? With Khagre as its face. Congress will be trashed to pulp and Kharge will be heavily rear ended . Or is it a ploy to relaunch RaGa post 2024??

Kharge will be 82 soon, doesn't have much experience. Was never a CM, make him youth leader of I.N.D.I.A alliance. Why not Manmohan Singh? He has experience and holds PHD. Accepted by DMK and other cheaters. Consider Deve Gowda also as he brings lot of experience. Even at 90s he can operate without any support.
