Siddaramaiah's announcement to lift hijab ban to appease PFI 'goondas': BJP

Bengaluru, Dec 23 (IANS): Karnataka BJP has come down heavily on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for announcing the decision to withdraw hijab ban imposed by the previous BJP government.

Taking to social media on Friday, the BJP charged that Siddaramaiah is all set to amend the Constitution to appease the 'goondas' of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) and the minorities, adding that people will teach him a befitting lesson in the coming days.

"Sowing of poisonous seeds in the beautiful garden of all religions is Siddaramaiah's guarantee scheme. The uniform guidelines were implemented to ensure equality among children in schools and colleges. This has been upheld by the Supreme Court of India as well," BJP calimed.

But, the Chief Minister is creating divisiveness in the minds of school going children in the matter of uniforms, BJP said.

In a move that may spark a controversy, Siddaramaiah on Saturday announced that he has asked for lifting of the ban on hijab for students and pre-university students in the state as clothing is a matter of individual choice.

"PM Modi's 'sab ka saath sab ka vikas' slogan is bogus. The BJP is into dividing people and the society on the basis of clothes, dress, and caste. Anyone can wear hijab and go to schools and colleges. I have asked to revert the decision banning hijab.

"Dressing and food habits are people's choice. You can wear whatever dress you want to. You can eat whatever you want. Whatever I eat is my right. I am clad in dhoti and jubba. If you want to wear a pant, you can. What is wrong with that?

"Our government will work for the poor. You should not stand with those who lie and indulge in cheating," Siddaramaiah said after inaugurating the newly-constructed Kavalande, Antarsante and Jayapura police stations in the Nanjangudu constituency in Mysuru.

The previous BJP government had imposed a ban on wearing hijab in schools and pre-university colleges.

The move was questioned by the students in the Karnataka High Court, which had upheld the decision of the government. The matter is presently pending in the Supreme Court.

No matter which part of the world Muslims live in, they MUST follow Sharia at all times. Islamic law has a dress code for both male and female. Hence, thought one might argue that under democracy and freedom it is a personal Choice to wear a Hijab, but by wearing the hijab the message she is sending out it that she is following Sharia. As Sharia is diagonally opposite to democratic laws of India and the West, the big question is “Which Laws do you Support and follow - Democracy or Sharia? You can't have both, as they don't mix, so please pick only one.

Even a kindergarten kid would conclude the same, because very soon hijab will percolate there also. I have seen kids who have just learnt how to walk and are wearing hijab. Siddu, and his bosses in Delhi are in the last leg, desperate time, desperate measures, even if it means sending one community deep into stone age.

Dear all: regarding , why people are against wearing hijab, people are dressing as they like in our india. and we cannot dictate terms to them. the hijab issue could have concluded within the udupi institution. we have seen two lecturers involved in this issue. and the principal of the institution could not solve this issue and escalated to higher levels and hijab issue raised. the hijab is nothing but covering the head and the chest area, why people are getting irritated by this, please do not create any further problems and politicize the issue. everyone should be happy to see the girls wearing , covering the head and the chest. we are surprised that , unnecessary some people are interfering in this issue. let us look about the students, who go beyond and consuming any type of illegal substances, this is also not our job, its police department job. however perticularly its our duty to make sure that our children should kept away from this.

India embraces a diverse range of cultural, religious, and personal practices, and decisions regarding wearing a hijab are a matter of individual choice. Each country has its own cultural context, and it's important to respect the pluralism that exists within our society. Decisions in one area, such as clothing choices, may not necessarily be linked to adopting laws from another country, as legal systems are shaped by unique historical, social, and cultural factors.

Hizab issue was one of the main reasons apart from corruption for the downfall of bajapa in May 23 elections... People don't want personal religious gestures to be politicized... It is fine if one is requested to lift the face closure to check the identity while entering exam hall but that should be a normal thing n not to be highlighted anywhere... Blatant exhibition of religious fervor or fanaticism should be objected to... If one wears a naama or a cross or a hijab it is their individual preference... We are a secular democratic nation and should not be suppressed by one sided oppression for the sheer pleasure of fanatics...

Again hijab will be main issue in 2024 LS elections (in Karnataka). Siddu has hit a self goal by raising the trivial issue again. He should understand that hijab is not banned in public (unlike France) except in educational institutions with prescribed uniforms.

It is not compulsory in India either!! It is individual.choice whether she want.to water hijab or not! In Saudi Arabia they behead the rapists, do u want to follow that? Why people bothered about what others follow instead of setting their own house first.
