Puttur: St Philomena PU College celebrates Annual Day

Puttur, Dec 23: The annual day ‘Philo Utsav,’ was celebrated at St Philomena P U College, on December 23.

The president, Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas, correspondent Mai De Deus Educational Institutions, Puttur said, “The students should have trust in God and always try to lead a disciplined life.” He added that Jesus taught us how to live and develop compassion towards others and life becomes meaningless without love. He motivated students to develop good thoughts and give hope to one and another.

The chief guest, Arun Furtado, deputy secretary to chief minister (administration) Vidhana Soudha said, "To lead a meaningful life, education is very important. Education is a process of acquiring and imparting knowledge. To achieve success communication skill, team work, discipline and time management is very important.” He advised parents to support their children in all walks of life.

The college annual report was the highlight of the event where in all the events, activities along with the academic achievements of the staff and the students were reported by the principal, Fr Ashok Rayan Crasta.

Meanwhile, dignitaries felicitated national level players, honoured Samruddhi Rai, the 10th rank holder and other meritorious students along with the best outgoing students.

The formal function was followed by the cultural event which was coordinated by the convenors of fine arts association, Ashwini K, dept of chemistry, Rashmi, department of physics, Rahul, deparment of commerce, Vanya, deparment of Chemistry, Joshila Menezes, department of commerce, Rama Naik, deparment of Kannada.

Fr Stany Pinto, campus director, St Philomena Institutions, Dr Antony Prakash Montheiro, principal, St Philomena College, Jerald D'Costa, vice-president, Parish Pastoral Council, Mai De Deus Church were present.

The programme was coordinated by convenors of student council, Prashanth Bhat, department of chemistry and Philomena Monteiro, department of commerce.

Pravan Ponnappa, president of student council welcomed the gathering. Thanvi K, secretary, student council introduced the chief guest. Pruthvi K, joint secretary proposed vote of thanks. Santhosh Clarence D'Souza, department of commerce compered the programme.
